Wishing on a star...

I am wishing on a star...for more time! This quarter of school has been CRAZY busy! I can barely catch my breath and keep up with all my work. I feel bad that I haven't visited with my blog friends, but then again I haven't visited with many of my friends or family in the last month. I hope to get thru the next few weeks and maybe get back a little of my time and sanity.

Take care friends, I hope to see you soon.

I am attending a get together with some ladies tonight(they will not have the game on-period.) and the men are gathering here for a Superbowl party (I will be taping the game to watch later).
I really don't have a dog in this hunt-but I am rooting for the Steelers as they were my team way back in the 70's. There was a HUGH rivalry in my family as my youngest brother and I were Pittsburgh fans and another brother was a Redskins fan. When the skins weren't in the Superbowl my brother would cheer for the team playing against the Steelers. Oh the fun we used to have.
Anyway, I hope whatever the results that it's a good game. How can it not be the Boss will be there! The guys here will have 3-D glasses for the halftime show. Really I'm just excited about the one hour Office episode coming up after the game....go Dunder Mifflin!

YaHoo-we finally got some snow! Not a lot but it's still very pretty especially as it's falling. This is the second day this week that we've been out of school-yesterday for ice and today because of the snow. All you folks in the northern sections of the country feel free to laugh-but I've lived in both areas and we are really not equipped to deal with icy and snowy roads here. So...what to do on a snowy day?

Bowl and play tennis and such on the Wii, make a big pot of soup, read, study for a big test on Thursday, play games. Uh, now what do we do on day two?

Watch an old classic like South Pacific! Not the guys, just me and I loved every minute of it. I bought a copy a while ago at Goodwill for $2.99 and the wonderful person that donated it included the little sing along booklet that came with it. So I crawled in the middle of my bed and sang along with Nellie Forbush and the gang!

I haven't watched this movie in years and it remains one of my favorite oldies. Who can resist the very french Emile singing to (straight out of Arkansas) Nellie "Some Enchanted Evening"?

Some enchanted evening

You may see a stranger,

you may see a stranger

Across a crowded room

And somehow you know,

You know even then

That somewhere you'll see her

Again and again.

The sailors stuck in the middle of the South Pacific lamenting that "There's Nothing Like a Dame"? The haunting tune of "Bali Ha'i" and the beautiful scenes of the islands-especially on a snowy day!

With all the bad news that we hear (about the economy everyday I love some of the words to "A Cockeyed Optimist";

I hear the human race

Is fallin' on its face

And hasn't very far to go,

But ev'ry whippoorwill

Is sellin' me a bill,

And tellin' me it just ain't so.

If you've never watched it you should and if it's been a long time watch it again. Now I've gotta go wash that man right outta my hair. Oh, and get back to studying for that test!

FYI: South Pacific was not nominated for best picture in 1958. It was up against a couple of awesome films of the time, Auntie Mame, Gigi and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (one of my favorites). Gigi won that year for best picture.

Only the shadow knows...

What's for dinner tonight.

Can this plastic thingy be recycled?

What really happens to that sock lost in the dryer?

If there is the speed of light, and the speed of sound, is there the speed of smell?

Where do dentist got to have dental work done?

Why do overalls have belt loops?

Sponges....in the ocean?

Why did the passengers on Gilligan's Island have so much luggage for a three hour tour?

Can dust bunnies reproduce?

Why is there a light in the fridge and not the freezer?

If corn oil is made from corn, and olive oil is made from olives then what is baby oil made from?

Why do they run the Ferris wheel at the fair with nobody on it?

What is another word for Thesaurus?

Oh, I have so many questions...especially what's for dinner tonight!

Winter pick me up...

The gray days of winter are here and I find myself looking thru my gardening books and magazines at pictures of bright and lovely things.

One of my favorite things to do is to treat myself to a winter pick me up. What is it?

A flowering plant like a fairy primrose of cyclamen. These little beauties brighten up the darkest winter day and help me get thru the winter doldrums.

I'm going plant shopping today!

What is your favorite winter pick me up? Care to share?

Yesterday...

..was my second blog-anniversary. How the days have flown! My resolution this new year was to not make any resolutions. I resolved to simply count my blessings and to remember to say "thank you" for each of them.

So thank you, for your kind words and sweet thoughts.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb,

sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Proverbs 16:24 (NIV)

Wow, another year has flown by and we are now several days into 2009. It seems harder to pack the Christmas stuff away, maybe because it's so much fun to unpack each ornament or treasure that we packed last year!

I have a problem with winter, it is really a depressing time for me. I have decided this year to try and see the good things in winter and not spend it longing for the spring.

It's a great time to get together with friends. Have some over for lunch or dinner.

Pull out the board games and popcorn.

Read that HUGH stack of books that have been begging to be read.

Start a project-sewing, painting or work on that scrapbook that only gets attention twice a year.

Start and finish a colossal puzzle. If you can spare a table top or set up a card table and just leave it up until it's done.

Curl up with a comfy throw and watch a mini series-or all those episodes of a favorite TV series that you missed.

Do you have any ideas? I'd love to hear how you wile away the hours during the gray days of winter.
